✦ A note from Barbara
"The most powerful leaders I've met weren't the loudest in the room — they were the ones who knew themselves well enough to be still, listen, and then act with intention."

Leadership forged
in the real world.

I'm Barbara Moulton — an International Coaching Federation (ICF)-credentialed executive coach and the Founder & CEO of Brighter Spot. I spent 25 years as a senior leader at two of the nation's largest public transit systems, rising to Vice President of Customer Experience & Strategic Initiatives at WMATA.

The work I'm most proud of isn't the budgets I managed. It's the people. The director who stopped shrinking in the room. The VP who rebuilt trust with her team. The executive who found the courage to reimagine what was possible.

I completed Georgetown University's Executive Leadership Coaching certification and hold the ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential — and I bring every year of lived experience into every coaching relationship.

Schedule a Chemistry Session

Before we begin any coaching engagement, we meet — just the two of us, no agenda, no obligation. A chemistry session is a 30-minute virtual conversation designed to answer one simple question: Is this the right fit?

Leaders who are
ready for more.

My clients come from the public sector, nonprofits, and government. What they share isn't a title — it's a readiness to lead more intentionally, powerfully, and authentically.

Senior executives navigating transitions
VPs and C-suite leaders stepping into new roles, preparing for the next chapter, or managing the weight of significant organizational change.
Directors building high-performing teams
Mid-level leaders managing up, across, and down — who want to show up more powerfully in all three directions.
Leaders managing through ambiguity
Coaching creates space to think, decide, and act with clarity when the path forward isn't obvious.

Leaders who know they're capable of more and are ready to do the reflective, courageous work of finding their Brighter Spot.

Coaching Philosophy

"Your Brighter Spot isn't somewhere out there waiting for you to find it. It's already inside you — coaching is just the light that helps you see it."

— Barbara D. Moulton, MS, ACC

01 · Listen

Reflective Listening

Every coaching relationship begins with me listening — deeply, fully, without an agenda. Your story, your language, your wisdom.

02 · Question

Powerful Questions

The right question at the right moment changes everything. I ask questions that help you find your own answers — which is far more lasting.

03 · Trust

Your Inner Knowing

I believe you already have what you need. My role is to hold the space — with warmth, honesty, and accountability — while you access it.

From those who found
their Brighter Spot.

Working with Barbara was the catalyst I didn't know I needed. She asked the question that changed everything — and then held the space while I found the answer myself.
Senior Director, Federal Agency

Barbara brings something I've rarely encountered — the credibility of someone who's been in the room making hard calls, combined with the skill of a genuinely gifted coach.
Vice President, Public Sector
Greater Boston Area
I came to Barbara feeling stuck. What I left with wasn't a plan — it was clarity about who I am as a leader. The plan followed naturally. She helps you see yourself accurately.
Executive Director, Nonprofit
DMV Region
The sessions with Barbara were unlike any professional development I'd experienced. She listens in a way that makes you hear yourself differently. My team noticed the shift before I did.
